Privacy Policy
At PrintMyTree, we take your privacy extremely seriously.
1. Client-Side Processing (No Data Storage)
PrintMyTree does not upload or store your GEDCOM files on our servers. All parsing, processing, and rendering of your family tree happen locally within your own web browser (client-side). To let you resume your work, your tree (including any edits) is automatically saved in your browser's local storage for up to 30 days of inactivity, after which it is automatically deleted. This saved data never leaves your device and is never transmitted to our servers. You can permanently delete it at any time using the "Clear my history" option in the app.
We use anonymized, aggregated visit statistics (via our hosting provider, Lovable) to understand traffic to this site, such as page views and general location. This does not identify you personally.
2. Analytics Cookies (Consent-Based)
With your consent, we use PostHog to understand how the site is used (page views, which steps people reach before ordering). PostHog acts as our data processor. Our PostHog project is hosted on PostHog's EU Cloud (Frankfurt, Germany), so this data stays within the EU/EEA. The legal basis is your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a) and the ePrivacy Directive) — no analytics cookies are set and no analytics script is loaded before you press "Accept" in the cookie banner. If you decline, nothing is loaded at all.
What is collected: page views, clicks on key steps (export, add to cart, checkout started/completed), approximate location derived from IP, browser and device type. Text input is masked. No GEDCOM file, no names, dates or any other content from your family tree is ever sent to PostHog. You can withdraw or change your consent at any time via the "Cookie settings" link in the footer.
3. Payment Data
Transactions are processed securely via Stripe. PrintMyTree does not collect, store, or have access to your credit card information. Stripe Tax may collect your country/location data solely for accurate VAT calculation.
